So I just got my Greenbelt, (go me) and every time I pass a test I always get excited, and start looking ahead. for my next test. To the point I need to do some breaking for my next test. Nothing major, but I figure now might be a good time to get a set of re-breakable boards. Any of you have a site you'd recommend getting from? or how about a certain brand. I'm going to just start looking around for now. thanks in advance for the advice.

I just passed my Black Belt grading with 60%.

I was a bit puzzled though when I was the only one of the seniors not asked to try breaking, though. It's happened before and I don't know if it's just a mistake or the examiners having doubts about my abilities.

I am really pleased though - I am going to take a judges' course in April.

Hello, you can all call me Kiki.

I'm a 30 yr old female with a rank of Black Belt in ITF Tae Kwon-Do.  I've stuidied for several years (with a seven year break in the middle) and now enjoy assisting my teacher to teach the lower belts!

I've also cross trained in Jiu Jutsu a little bit, some Kali, Tai Chi and Tai Chi sword (both Yang and Cheng styles), Savate and whatever else Teacher throws at us.

I don't much enjoy competions anymore, but I do love to spar XD!  Getting a massive bruise makes me really happy for all the bragging rights that goes with it!  I'm by no means the best fighter, but what I lack I make up for with sheer joy!

Anyway, nice to met you all (soon!)

Kiki

Subject:ITF Encyclopedia, helpful?

I was looking through some Taekwon-do sites and came across the ITF Encyclopedia, and thought hey that's kind of cool maybe I'll look into getting it. Of course it's like 1000 dollars so no way in heck. I also found The Condensed ITF Encyclopedia, for 100 dollars and the full encyclopedia on CD-rom for 75 Dollars. That's more in my price range. Has anyone here read or studied in any of the above mentioned resources? if so how helpful we're they. If you have any other books dvd's or the like that you found helpful or just plain awesome, that would be great to hear about as well.

Thanks

Subject:belt tests
Time:10:20 pm

hey guys
i am just interested in how belt tests are run in different schools (especially in Europe) in ITF schools.

in my school (T.Kang taekwondo in NYC):

1. blocks, stances and punches appropriate for each belt
2. kicking combinations
for example: for testing for high yellow:
kicking combination 1 is back leg front kick, sliding side kick, back leg roundhouse
combination 2 is back leg round, back leg round, one step turning hook

3. forms (patterns) - usually current level and previous level.
4. kicking and punching some bags with techniques we are supposed to know for our level
5. one steps - one step attack followed by a series of defense moves
or for some levels - "techniques and exercises" - sort of a set of certain sparring moves
6. breaking - starting from yellow (e.g. sliding side for yellow; back leg front for high yellow)
for some levels - sets of breaking (5-6, done move after move)

what i noticed in London (i just moved here) - most schools do not have kicking combinations or 1-steps. many have 3-steps which we did not have. many schools do not do board breaking until black belts.
